evin Lomax (Keenu Reeves) an ambitious and talented young district attorney joins a powerful New York law firm headed by the mysterious and charismatic John Milton (Al Pacino).. Kevin's religious mother warns him of the demons dwelling in New York to which he doesn't take her seriously. Kevin's life in New York faces the intense seduction of success and money at every turn. The more temptation he gives in to, the more successful his career becomes. However, each professional success damns his personal life which results in the destruction of his wife (Charlize Theron).
Kevin's life is in disarray. After confronting his mother, he learns John is his biological father. John not only confirms his mother's claim but also adds that he is Satan incarnate. He confesses to setting the stage for destroying Kevin's personal life but informs him he could have prevented any of this from happening if he didn't give in to the temptations. After refusing to take part in his Satanic heritage, Kevin cites free will and commits suicide. Who could have predicted the devil would be both conniving and a lawyer? |
A down-and-out, recovering alcoholic detective Nick Curran (Michael Douglas), becomes involved in case of the brutal stabbing death of a former rock star. The victim was killed during sex by an ice pick leaving the only suspect Catherine Tramell (Sharon Stone). She is a crime novelist who was last seen with the musician the night he died. Catherine shows no remorse after hearing about the murder but openly admits to sleeping with him and flaunting her sexuality.
During the investigation, Nick discovers Catherine's habit of befriending vicious murderers, of her previous relationship with Beth Garner (Jeanne Tripplehorn)-a psychologist who works with his department that he is intimate with and that she has been investigating him as well. The case about the murdered singer turns into a twisted love triangle full of lust, mistrust and murders. |
