The three Heathers (played by Shannen Doherty, Kim Walker and Lisanne Falk) rule Westerburg High School . The very name itself signifies popularity, privilege and power which they use to their advantage. In short, these girls are both beautiful and vicious. Veronica (Wynona Ryder) roams with the Heathers but has misgivings about her "friends" which she scribbles into her diary. Her diary ends up playing second fiddle to the gun-toting, new kid J.D. (Christian Slater). He convinces her to get even. Despite their first prank ending in murder, Veronica and J.D. continue to up the ante until Veronica grows a conscious.
Simply stated, "Heathers" is one of the best dark comedies ever made. Back in the '80s, Winona Ryder was featured in more than just surveillance videos. She was beautiful and showed all the promise of becoming a huge star. This film, in my opinion, was her swan song. This was the original "Mean Girls" and rumor has it "Heathers" will be turned into a musical in the near future. Memorable dialogue: "Dear Diary, my teen angst bullshit has a body count." |
Marty McFly (Michael J. Fox), a typical 1980s teen, finds himself stuck in 1955 after taking a ride in Doc Brown's (Christopher Llyod) time machine. In true 80s fashion, the time machine is a flux capacitor rigged DeLorean. While stuck in the 1950s, Marty meets his parents (Lea Thompson and Crispin Glover) as teenagers and unknowingly jeopardizes his existence when his teenage mother starts to fall for him. Marty must get his parents to fall in love before a young Doc Brown can send him back to the 1980s.
"Back to the Future" brilliantly embraced the culture of both the 1950s and the 1980s in a witty, satirical way. On a side note, it also makes you realize at one point in time your parents were horny teenagers. Memorable dialogue: "Nobody calls me chicken." "1.21 jigawatts!" "I'm sure in 1985, plutonium is available at every corner drugstore, but in 1955 it's a little hard to come by." |
