David Kessler and Jack Goodman (David Naughton and Griffin Dunne) are two American students on a backpacking trip through Europe. After wandering through East Proctor, England, they end up at the Slaughtered Lamb pub where locals are rather unhelpful and peculiar. David and Jack leave the pub and quickly dismiss the warning to steer clear of the moors. After getting lost, the pair is viciously mauled by a werewolf. David wakes up three weeks later in a London hospital where he learns his friend Jack did not survive the attack. David begins having nightmares involving Jack warning him he will turn into a werewolf during the next full moon. According to Jack's ghost, the only way for David to lift the curse is if he kills himself. Once David is finally released from the hospital, he is taken in by a nurse named Alex (Jenny Agutter). They begin a love affair leaving only a matter of time before the next full moon and David's hairy transformation.
This was a great film thanks to the brilliant partnering of Naughton and Dunne. Not many other films have been as successful incorporating humor, horror and romance. Anyone else notice that every song on the soundtrack includes the word moon? Admit it, you still ahhhooo whenever you hear Warren Zevon's masterpiece. Memorable dialogue: Jack: The undead surround me. Have you tried talking to a corpse? It's boring. I'm lonely! Kill yourself, David… |
Ripley (Sigourney Weaver) is the last surviving crew member of a corporate spaceship destroyed after being attacked by a seemingly invincible alien. After the attack, Ripley spends the next 57 years in hyper sleep drifting through space haunted by what happened. Her story is disbelieved by the suits at corporate especially since the planet where they found the alien has since been colonized. When contact is suddenly lost with the colonists, Ripley returns to the planet with a squad of marines, an android (Lance Henriksen), and a Company executive (Paul Reiser). Once on the planet, only one survivor is found… a little girl named Newt. Ripley's motherly instincts kick in and inspire her to protect Newt in the ongoing battle for survival against the aliens.
Thanks to its high-paced and high-intensity action, Aliens has received a perfect rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Aside from that honor, it was also nominated for 21 awards (winning 2 Oscars) and cemented James Cameron as one of Hollywood 's foremost directors. This might be one of the best sequels ever created. Memorable dialogue: Ripley: Did IQs drop sharply while I was away? |
